Doris Arkin

Doris Arkin was born in Uruguay in 1957. Her family emigrated to Israel following the incarceration and torture of her father by military forces in the 1970s. She lives and works in Israel. She practiced as a clinical child psychologist until 1997, and has since worked as a sculptor.

Her work reflects a long-standing practice of not turning away from human hardship – in art, in daily life, and in social and political fields. Both material and immaterial elements in her work embody a commitment to humanistic values while bearing witness to the harshness of the human ordeal.

She studied Philosophy (B.A.) and Psychology (M.A.) at Tel Aviv University, and Sculpture at the Basis School of Sculpture. She has served as Chair of the Plumas Art Foundation in Israel since 2021. Other fields of activity include liberal democracy, infancy psychology, and the climate crisis.
