Annunciation

Annunciation recalls the moment of corporeal awareness of a child’s existence within the mother’s body – the surprising, intimate, almost imperceptible yet unmistakable first encounter with her child. It also mourns the personal loss of the womb that once held those earliest memories.

The work is constructed from industrial metal-sheet remnants salvaged from recycling containers, where the primary feature is empty space. Hidden among its twisted parts are metal strips wrapped in small knitted covers, a reminiscence of warmth within the disintegrating body of the work.
