A saucer-like object hangs, leaning over the viewers’ heads, perhaps inviting them to observe the beauty of the material from which it is made, perhaps threatening to fall upon them.
The work is composed of drops of bronze that fell to the ground during the soldering of another sculpture. Each drop was soldered, one by one, to form the shape of a saucer – a perforated form with a sharp, thorn-like contour. The saucer is luring, yet it fails in its primary function: to contain and to nourish.
Bronze drops are not waste; they are normally melted down and reused, part of a recurring life cycle. By gathering them, the artist interrupted this cycle, allowing space for the hope of a different outcome. Art acts here as a kind of exorcist – bringing ghosts to the surface and breaking the vicious cycle of pain.
