Darkness may invade the individual soul and, at times, it may be the condition of an age shared by many, when values crumble. Dark is a personal memory of such bleak times in Uruguay of the 70’s.
The found object in this work is a vehicle’s silencer and bottom shield. Silencing is one attribute of darkness, along with solitude in unfathomed depth.
On that somber object, glimmer of a way out is being offered – a frail and improbable escape from any dark place. For months the artist collected her fallen hair, measured and counted the strands to gather bundles, which were then cut and tied together to form ladders.
These thin ladders of hair hang from small compartments – bare, tremulous. The ladders are left without protective glass or rope, thus forming a space to be shared with others, in trust and commitment to the prevention of harm.
