Deberes (Homework, in Spanish) was created as a farewell to the artist’s father, a man of strength, order, and numbers. The work features the sentence “My father died today,” written in Spanish—the phrase she found herself repeating with a sense of alienation on the day of his passing. This sentence is inscribed repeatedly on 365 specially designed pages, similar to those she used for schoolwork while growing up in Uruguay. These pages mark a full year, echoing the Jewish obligation of reciting the Kaddish for a deceased parent.
