We begin to forget from the moment we are born. In other words: we begin to die as we enter the world. In this, at least, we are all equal.
Fuí (Spanish – I was) is a shredder that shreds pages taken from autobiographies. The authors are both famous and unknown; men and women; scientists, soldiers, artists, businesspeople, politicians, athletes, gardeners, convicts – people of many cultures and many languages. They all meet the same fate, and in the end they all share the same heap.
The strip of pages destined for shredding was made by gluing them together with acid-free glue – an absurd gesture of defiance against death, and a small token of care that is shredded along with them. Each person has a page in a memory box that briefly holds the story of a life. The life story was shredded, but the memory was kept.
