Icarus is a lesson in hubris – a reminder of the supremacy of Time and the laws of Nature over human desire. A lofty, inaccessible tornado once beholden to Gravity’s law becomes, here, a low, human-scaled creature. Time is a devouring vortex, an inexorable and merciless force sweeping over everything and everyone – yet in this work it seems to pause, if only momentarily, to listen to human lives and their stories.

Countless hours were spent in the attentive joining of thousands of used watch faces, forming the medium through which the anonymous memories of those who measured their lifetimes by them might briefly reappear.
