Retorno (Return, in Spanish) is a farewell to the artist`s deceased mother. On the day her mother died, Arkin found a small basket with her hair rollers, left as they were after their last use. In Retorno, the rollers rest atop Spanish-language poetry books from the years of her mother`s youth, held together – almost guarded -by a hair net of the kind she used to wear. This work expresses an unattainable wish to give back to her a poetic inner world she set aside as a wife and mother.
