There, Here

Forty years on, is an immigrant still an immigrant? There and Here are attempts to grapple with that life-altering, wounding rupture. Both works take the form of puzzles. There must be reassembled again and again; Here is soldered into a single, immovable piece. The fragments scarcely fit, even though the puzzle is ostensibly whole. Even when in daily life identity and belonging feel steady enough, yet the splintered past keeps resurfacing, insisting on its place. The divide between “before” and “after” remains – held in two separate works.
